If you posted a video to YouTube and it turns out you’re not satisfied with the content or you just want to lighten your social media footprint, removing a video is a very straight-forward and easy process. You can delete the video from the app on your smartphone or from the website. Here’s how to do it in under a minute!
Deleting The Video From The App On Your Smartphone
Go to the home screen of the App and tap on your profile icon, you will find it in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Select Your Channel from the options that appear and select the Videos tab from the menu, you will see it at the top of your channel and it will show all of your past uploads .
A playlist of your videos will appear on the screen. On the right hand side of each video, is a menu icon that appears like three consecutive dots. Tap the menu for the video that you want to remove, tap on the Delete option and finally tap Ok.
Deleting A Video From The Website
To delete your video using the desktop version of the website, go to the homepage and click on the Your Channel option that appears on the menu. This will direct you straight to your channel, which contains all of your videos; from there click on the YouTube studios button, you will see it in the middle of the screen by your profile picture, click on the Videos tab, it will show all of your past uploads. Select the video or videos you want to delete by ticking the box beside each one.
You will see a menu icon that looks like three consecutive dots. Click the Menu icon then Delete from the options that appear. Finally, tick the confirmation box and then click on the Delete Video button.
Consider The Implications Before Deleting A Video
If you follow the above steps, your video or videos will be deleted permanently. Your video will be removed from anywhere that it was shared or embedded this includes votes and comments
Deleting videos could potentially harm your future view counts and could affect how metrics are viewed by YouTube’s algorithm. In effect, the odds of your channel reaching recommended, especially if you are not a major network with vested interested from the company, could be slim.
Let’s say that you uploaded a video that performed well, a video about selfie ring-lights, for example, that would ordinarily have been suggested to people looking for selfie ring-lights, the algorithm would view your link to that content differently, you could lose out in terms of viewers and earning potential.
If you are too self-critical or you received some criticism in the comment section, you may feel the urge to delete a perfectly good video, Most content creators experience negativity in the comments section, please don’t let that be the reason you delete a video. All comments count as engagement and bring traffic to your channel, even the negative comments count.
